 ఉద్దేశ్యం:
శిశువులు సురక్షితంగా ప్రసవించడంలో సహాయపడే మంత్రసానుల సహకారంపై దృష్టి పెట్టడం, వారి స్థితిగతులపై అవగాహన పెంచడం మరియు మంత్రసానుల వృత్తిని గౌరవించడం అంతర్జాతీయ మంత్రసాని దినోత్సవం (IDM- International Day of the Midwife) ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశ్యం.

 ఎప్పటి నుంచి?
మంత్రసానులను గుర్తించడానికి మరియు అభినందించడానికి ఒక రోజును గుర్తించాలనే ఆలోచన 1987 లో నెదర్లాండ్స్‌లో జరిగిన ఇంటర్నేషనల్ కాన్ఫెడరేషన్ ఆఫ్ మిడ్‌వైవ్స్ (ICM- International Confederation of Midwives) సమావేశం నుండి వచ్చింది.
1992 నుంచి ప్ర‌తి సంవ‌త్స‌రం మే 05 వ తేదీన అంతర్జాతీయ మంత్రసాని దినోత్స‌వాన్ని జరుపుకుంటున్నారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఈ వేడుకలో సుమారు 50 దేశాలు భాగంగా ఉన్నాయి.

 మంత్రసానులు (Midwives):
మంత్రసాని (Midwife) గర్భిణీ తల్లులకు సరైన సంరక్షణ ఇస్తుంది మరియు ప్రసవ సమయంలో వారికి సహాయం చేస్తుంది. 
ప్రసూతి (Maternity) సమయంలో గర్భిణీ స్త్రీలకు సహాయం చేయడం గురించి ఆచరణాత్మక జ్ఞానం ఉన్న మహిళలను మంత్రసానులు (Midwives) అంటారు. ఒకప్పుడు ప్రపంచంలో ఆస్పత్రులు మరియు గర్భిణీ స్త్రీలకు తగిన ఆరోగ్య సదుపాయాలు లేనప్పుడు, తల్లులు ఇంట్లోనే శిశువులకు జన్మనివ్వడంలో మంత్రసానులు సహాయం చేసేవారు.
ఐక్యరాజ్య సమితి అనుబంధ సంస్ధ అయిన ప్రపంచ ఆరోగ్య సంస్ధ (WHO) 2020 ను International Year of the Nurse and Midwife గా ప్రకటించింది.
